Religion and Agriculture Are Big In Balanya!
Santa Cruz De Balanya is an almost exclusively Maya town of about 6,000 people. Located in Guatemala’s highlands and a short distance (half an hour’s drive) from the excellent Maya ruins of Iximche, Balanya is a community that is largely reliant on the fertile surrounding land. Balanya is distinctive for its remarkable youth orchestra - an amazing monument to the power of community spirit and bloody minded determination.
